About the Role

Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority (NAWMA) are seeking an experienced and proactive Governance Officer to join their Corporate Services team.

The successful candidate will coordinate and assist in developing NAWMA’s governance capabilities, manage the rollout of a new Records Management System, and support the Corporate Services team with high-level governance and risk management tasks.

Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority (NAWMA) is a regional subsidiary formed under the Local Government Act (SA) 1999. They manage local recycling infrastructure and services for City of Salisbury, City of Playford, and Town of Gawler. Their operations deliver significant environmental, economic, and social benefits for current and future generations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and develop capability in the Governance and Risk Management space
  • Coordinate and contribute to the completion of Risk Action Plan
  • Develop and maintain Policy Framework
  • Facilitate the discovery, implementation, rollout, and ongoing management Records Management System
  • Assist in preparing Annual Reports, Business Continuity Plan, Agendas and Minutes for Board and Audit Committee Meetings
  • Manage and review the Contracts Register, Strategic Risk Register, and related documents

About You

The ideal candidate is a positive, proactive self-starter who enjoys challenges and has a high level of attention to detail. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to prepare high-quality written reports, papers, and documents.

You will be strategic and a conceptual thinking with sound decision-making skills.  You will have exceptional relationship-building skills, high level problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.  You should have a strategic mindset and strong business acumen.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Skills in policy and procedure development.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and privacy principles.
  • Ability to conduct research, analyse information, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of WHS legislation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of local government and/or waste management functions, desirable
  • Understanding of the Local Government Act 1999 and related legislation, desirable
